When Midland sports fans think of fast pitch softball one of the names immediately coming to mind is Lee Isenhart. After playing softball for many years, Isenhart had a vision in the mid-1980’s to bring a men’s major fast pitch team back to the city. Behind his leadership, the Midland Explorers was formed in 1986. Lee became President of Midland Explorers Booster Club, running day to day operations to keep fast pitch alive in Midland. The booster club also oversaw operations of the Lady Explorers program. He continued as the face of the Midland Explorers for over 20 years.
During this tenure, Isenhart was elected as the Commissioner for the Michigan International Softball Congress (ISC), where he would organize teams for local and state tournaments to qualify for the ISC World Tournament. Lee was one of the driving forces in bringing the International Softball Congress World Tournament to Midland in 2010 and 2012. He served as ISC Commissioner for the state of Michigan for over 20 years.
His love of the game led him to coach the Midland High School Girls JV team and he also volunteered with the Northwood Softball team for many years.
In addition to his involvement with fast pitch softball, Isenhart was also a fixture in the Midland bowling scene. He was elected to the Midland Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1979
Isenhart passed away in 2011 while still serving the Midland Explorers.
