The 2005 Coleman High School Softball team captured the first State softball title in school history by winning the Division 4 Championship. The Comets finished the season ranked #1 by setting a new school record for wins with an overall record of 40-6. The Comets used a well-balanced team approach, which featured great pitching, excellent defense, and timely hitting. Combining talent, teamwork, and exceptional spirit, they were characterized as a team with outstanding work habits and the ability to set and achieve lofty goals. Coleman had a successful seven game state championship run, which featured wins over talent-laden, and heavily favored opponents. The Comets defeated league rival Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, 8-2, in the District Championship game, then topped Bay City All Saints, 7-0, in the Regional Championship game. The Comets went on to defeat Grass Lake,4-1, in the Quarterfinals. Coleman would face top-ranked Center Line St. Clement in the Semifi nals at Battle Creek, winning 7-1. The Comets then completed their magical run with an 11-0, six inning mercy rule win over Muskegon Catholic Central to capture the State Championship.
